A Message From The Chair

July 21, 2020
Dear Fellow Democrat,

On behalf of Mercer County Democrats, we recognize the passing of the great and inspirational American voice for justice and monumental civil rights icon Congressman John Lewis.  Recognized widely as the “Conscience of Congress”, his steadying voice will be sorely missed as our Nation currently is in one of its most far-reaching struggles for its soul.  His courage and sacrifice will forever be remembered, as his life will stand as a constant reminder for all Americans who stay in the struggle, that we need to “get into good trouble.”
Turn America Blue!!!  Mercer Democrats are passionate and laser focused on our all important mission to elect a new President and Democratic majorities in the Senate and Congress!!  We must get Donald Trump out of office!  We have been busy assembling a planning organizing committee to formulate our campaign plans and to actively engage county democrats in our joint UNITED efforts.I have been in communications with the Pennsylvania Democratic Party Executive Director and other neighboring party members to solicit ideas and plans and partnerships.
Let me know if you wish to be involved in this planning phase.   We will then be reaching out to everyone throughout Mercer County to be a part of this critical effort.  This November election is the most consequential in our lifetimes and will forever impact our lives and our Nation’s future.

On October 14 celebration, we also will be recognizing and honoring our Young Leader of the Year, Athina Fassu, President of the Mercer County Young Democrats.  Through her leadership she has done such amazing work in rebooting the organization in April 2019.  Athina moved to Hamilton (now resides in Ewing) in October 2005 from Cameroon.  She attended Steinert High School and Rider University.  She has interned for Assemblyman Wayne DeAngelo, worked as an assistant for Middlesex County Democratic Organization, for the Assembly Majority Office and currently is a legislative aide to Assemblyman Anthony Verrelli.  We are thrilled to have a vibrant Young Democrats organization back in Mercer.  We salute Athina Fassu for her leadership and success!
