Celebrating Black History Month

We applaud the many inspiring and instructive programs sponsored by our Mercer County Democratic organizations and officials to celebrate the life and legacies of Black Americans who have contributed so much to Mercer County and our country and to reflect on “where we go from here.”

Dear Fellow Democrat,

Since 1976, February has been declared Black History Month by every U.S. President, as a time to reflect and recognize our history and the importance of Black Americans.  I applaud the many inspiring and instructive programs sponsored by our Mercer County Democratic organizations and officials to celebrate the life and legacies of Black Americans who have contributed so much to Mercer County and our country and to reflect on “where we go from here.”

Mercer County Democratic Convention will be held on Thursday, March 18, at 6 P.M.on Zoom.  The Registration process will be launched very shortly.  More information to follow.  I have appointed the Convention Committee and asked Council Member Cathleen Lewis and David Chait, who have graciously agreed, to serve as Convention Committee Co-Chairs.

In 2021, there are several races, including for Governor, the entire state legislature as well as county offices.  Anyone who may be interested in running for office should send a Letter of Interest to me at demchairperson@mercerdemocrats.com, by February 22, expressing your interest, with all of your contact  information (name, home address, email, phone numbers) and relevant information about yourself and your candidacy.

Questions, always feel welcome to contact me at demchairperson@mercerdemocrats.com.

Legislative Redistricting Update.   The U.S. Census Bureau just announced that census data delivery to states will be delayed until September 30, 2021.  As this census date is used for state legislative and congressional redistricting,  the 2021 elections will be conducted under the existing districts. We will work closely with our Mercer County Democratic representatives regarding the New Jersey redistricting process.

The MCDC is kicking off Activist Education Forums geared to county committee members and other Democrats who want to be active in their community.  An initial “pilot” session will take place this month, targeted primarily to Trenton Democrats.  This program is intended to provide an overview of the various areas of political engagement, including: getting to know your neighborhood, doing voter outreach, ways to support candidates, and election day activities.  After completion and evaluation of our first session, we will continue to set up opportunities around the County.

From East Windsor to Washington D.C.!   Shout-Out to our own Jay Vaingankar  (who coordinated the PA Bucks County and our MCDC PA Biden efforts) has been asked to join the White House Office of Management and Administration as the personal aide to the Director.

In Unity for Victory,

Mayor Janice Mironov
