A Message From The Chair

The world often seems to be changing too fast these days, but we can take comfort in this:  We Democrats are the party of inclusion, equal justice, and shared prosperity. We believe in good government and the people’s right to choose their leaders.  As always, we will address our issues openly and professionally.

Join us in our Democratic cause at our Reorganization Meeting on July 28.

While we will not be able to meet in person because of Covid-19, we are adapting to conditions through a telephone town hall that gives all County Committee Members the ability to participate and have their votes counted.  Working with providers experienced with groups like ours, including our neighboring Middlesex County Democratic Organization, our aim is to provide the best possible forum for Democratic decision making.

To ensure access and security, please visit this http://tinyurl.com/MercerDemsJuly28 to register for the Reorganization Meeting and indicate how you prefer to participate in the telephone town hall.  On July 28, you, along with all other registered County Committee members, will receive a phone message that simultaneously brings everyone into the town hall at 6 PM.  We will conduct business according to our agreed procedures, with introduction and presentation of candidates, discussion, and secure, confidential voting.

Cancellation of the county reorganization would be a violation of law as found in a court decision earlier this year that ruled against two South Jersey county chairpersons who attempted to extend County Committee terms in violation of their party Bylaws.  Our Bylaws, consistent with State law, require a reorganization meeting every two years.

We will have the results almost instantly and be able to move on immediately to building a resounding victory on November 3rd.

We will continue to put out detailed information on our Reorganization Meeting.  In the meantime, if you have questions or concerns, please contact me via email at demchairperson@mercerdemocrats.com, or your Municipal Chair.

TO MUNICIPAL CHAIRPERSONS & LEADERSHIP,

The vote counting for the July 7 Primary Election continues.  Please know that the Mercer County Board of Elections will convene to review and count the ProvisionalBallots from Primary Election Day on Monday, July 20 at 10:30 A.M. at the satellite office at 1440 Parkside Avenue, Ewing.  The state timelines require that vote results be certified by the County Clerks by July 24.

Per the July 15 Chairperson message, the Mercer County Democratic Committee Executive Board voted to proceed on Tuesday, July 28, at 6 PM with the Mercer County Democratic Committee Reorganization Meeting.   Cancellation of the county reorganization would be a violation of law as found in a court decision earlier this year that ruled against two South Jersey county chairpersons who attempted to extend County Committee terms in violation of their party Bylaws

Our Bylaws, consistent with State law and the Governor’s Executive Order 164, require a reorganization meeting every two years.  We have a legal requirement and a moral mandate to proceed with the reorganization process.  While we will not be able to meet in person because of Covid-19, we are adapting to conditions through a telephone town hall that gives all County Committee Members the ability to participate and have their votes counted.

On July 15, I appointed the following Nominating Committee for the reorganization meeting:  Hopewell Councilman Kevin Kuchinski – Chairperson, John Donnelly – Vice Chairperson, Senator Shirley Turner. Assemblyman Anthony Verrelli, Sheriff Jack Kemler, Freeholder Nina Melker, Lawrence Councilman Christopher Bobbitt, Hightstown Councilman Joshua Jackson, Hamilton Councilwoman Nancy Phillips, Carl Benedetti, Jr, Don Dileo, Athina Fassu, Heather Howard, Margaret Martin, David Ponton, Sujit Singh, and Sonja Walter.  Anyone interested in being considered for an MCDC position should forward a letter of interest by Friday, July 24, 12 noon, to MCDC jasonsalvatore@mercerdemocrats.com

Feel welcome as always to contact me with any questions, comments, or good ideas.

Mayor Janice S. Mironov,
Mercer County Democratic Chairperson
